My NOAA Ocean Exploration Internship

Last summer, I had the opportunity to work with NOAA Ocean Exploration as a Hollings Scholar. For my internship, I annotated ROV video footage and analyzed EK60 sonar data from the EX2014 Okeanos expedition to learn more about the Hydrographer Canyon water column. The experience taught me so much about how ocean data is collected and interpreted, the strengths and limitations of existing surveying methods, and the importance of water column research. I also fell in love with comb jellies and gained infinite respect for taxonomists–their knowledge is vast and their enthusiasm is infectious!
